What's You Hair Care Routine?

My mornings are filled with routines. Routines from getting breakfast made, the kids out the door, to getting my self ready. Getting the hair and face on is a feat in itself. Isn't it? While I like to change my hair “look” almost everyday, I do have a routine in getting it prepared for the final look.

My fine hair craves volume. Volume that lasts, while still being smooth and naturally beautiful. Finding volumizing products that are gentle and nourishing is no longer hard to find thanks to
AVEENO® and it's newer line of hair care products. Lately, I have been adding the AVEENO® NOURISH+ VOLUMIZE shampoo and conditioner as a part of my daily routine to get beautiful soft hair full of volume and shine.

I start by shampooing in the shower, once or twice depending on how much previous product is in my hair. After rinsing, I apply conditioner – a lot of it, as my hair is very dry. I leave that on for the rest of my shower (usually another 4 or 5 minutes) and rinse the conditioner out as the very last step. Right before I get out, I turn the water to cold – as I swear this helps to lock in shine.

After towel drying, I choose a volumizing styling product depending on my style for the day. If I will be wearing it down, a volumizing mousse is used right before blow-drying. If I am going to pull it up or back, I use a volumizing root product or root booster at the top of my head (the roots) and mousse only on the ends.

Next, if I am wearing my hair down, I blow-dry on low to medium heat with a large or medium round brush. If I want it more smooth with little curl, I use the large round brush.

If I am looking for more waves or curls, which I have a bit of, I use the medium barrel brush. When I am finished, I simply spray with a finishing spray and go.

Alternatively, if I choose to wear my hair up, I usually only blow dry the front and sides of my hair thoroughly with a large round brush. I then tend to leave the back alone and let it dry on it's own. When the back section is done air drying or is at least damp-dry, I take my brush, spray some finishing spray on the brush, and smooth it out over the ponytail or falling hair pieces. Voila.

Teen Approved: Hydralicious Self-Targeting Shampoo.

I swear that my 17 year old son is more picky about products than I am. He has gone through more bottles of shaving cream and shampoo than I think I will in a lifetime! I knew Herbal Essences must be onto something when Justin actually asked me to go stock up on this new shampoo. It is their Hydralicious Self-Targeting Shampoo.

I would have never thought that taming the mane on a 17 year old boy would be that difficult. I guess from the multiple showers per day coupled with the swimming and basketball playing, this kid does have a few hair issues. The wrong shampoo and his hair can look too dry. The wrong conditioner, which he always uses too much of, weighs his hair down. As he shakes his head (like a dog!) until his hair dries for the ultimate "flow", he would never know how it would turn out. When he picked up this Hydralicious Shampoo off my beauty shelf because of the nice scent, he got more than he bargained for. He FOUND his perfect shampoo.

The shampoo is infused with extracts of red vanilla & whipped aloe making it a very nice scent, not too feminine for him. He could care less about the red and pink packaging too. He loves that it works for him, no matter the mood of his hair. He happily gives it the Justin seal of approval!

The Herbal Essences Hydralicious line consists of three formulas. There is the Self-Targeting, Featherweight and ReConditioning. All formulas come with a shampoo and conditioner. You cannot miss them on the drugstore shelves with their pretty swirls of color that fuse together to make the ultimate formula.

You can find Hydralicious at mass merchandisers and drugstores now, for just under $5. The large 23.7oz sizes are currently on sale at Walmart for $5 each, where I was happy to stock up for him.

My New Favorite Hairspray: Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper.

I don't know what it is about the weather this spring. It goes from cold, damp and rainy straight to hot and humid. There is no in between. It is just so not good for my hair. Whether I am defending my tresses against the dampness or humidity, I found a great finishing product to use on top of the styling anti-frizz beauties. In fact I am liking this so much that it has garnered my new "favorite" status.

What is this wonder you ask? Well as my title suggests, it is no other than Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper. In their words, it is a brushable humidity resistance strong-hold hairspray. In my words, it is amazing.

This finishing spray (which can be used on wet or damp hair for styling purposes as well) holds my hair through wind, rain, heat and humidity. The hold is strong, but not stiff or crunchy. How we all hate crunchy hair! The real genius of this spray is that while the hold is strong, it can be brushed out with ease, making restyling a breeze. My style lasts all day when using, and those frizzies do not pop up (or out!) and my hair is not weighed down by the spray nor the elements.

A can of Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper can be found at your favorite salon for about $14.99. It is a great deal and a great spray that you will want to add into your hair care routine.
