Nyx Professional Makeup at Whitney Port's Fashion Show!

Makeup artist Tina Turnbow used Nyx Professional Makeup to create makeup looks for Whitney Port’s new clothing line, Whitney Eve, giving the models a playful, “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired look as they walked down the runway.

Here’s how you can get the look:

Doll Play: Big lashes are the look for Spring. Tina used Nyx Professional Makeup’s Doll Eye Mascara in Volume to create, big open eyes. For extra definition, the model’s eyes were lined with Nyx Professional Makeup’s Felt Tip Eyeliner in Black, with a sexy cat-eye swoop.

Candy-Colored Eyes: For eyes that popped on the runway, Tina created a colorful, fresh look using Nyx Professional Makeup’s Single Eyeshadows in three steps:

1)    Eyelid – Sweep the White Pearl shadow up to the crease to make eyes pop

2)    Crease – Use the Golden shade to highlight and add shimmer

3)    Contour – Add definition above the crease to the brow bone with shadow in Burgundy Pearl

Get Cheeky:  For a youthful, flushed pink cheek, Tina mixed Nyx Professional Makeup’s Rouge Cream Blush in Glow and Hot Pink to apples and contours of the cheek.

Bright Lips: To set off the playful look, Tina selected Nyx Professional Makeup’s Black Label Lipstick in Volcano – a bright, sunny coral shade.

Frederic Fekkai at Rag & Bone.

Earlier today, Frederic Fekkai Lead Stylist, Teddy Charles, tended to the tresses of the Rag & Bone models.  This is such a beautiful look that can easily be recreated with the how-to below.

The look was a bit rough and tousled, full of texture and volume.  After a few spritzes of Fekkai Tousled Wave Spray, he rolled hair to make it piecey.  He then wrapped and teased the hair into messy tendrils with Fekkai Full Blown Volume Lifting Hairspray.  He completed the look with the Fekkai Au Natural Dry Shampoo to create a matte finish.

Why Fashion Week is Important for Beauty.

As Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week is here, I thought it was a good time to address the numerous questions I get about Fashion Week and it's importance to beauty.

You see, as the fashions for next season come down the runway, the makeup looks are tailored to the overall theme or inspiration for the line. Makeup artists test out products that are already in development and mix up new colors, sometimes on the spot, that just might be made for the following season. For instance, a creamy eye look might be achieved with the perfect color lipstick for the runway. If it works, a creamy eyeshadow in a similar shade could evolve out if it.

Overall looks are important too. It is fun to notice if shades are bright, neutral, matte or fresh. Will the smoky eye still be hot next season? How about the cheeks? Will they be rosey or bronzed? There is a lot to take in and it is so fun to watch it all come to fruition when the next season of products come alive.

It is not only the makeup I watch. I look at the hair and nail trends too.

I hope you understand a bit more about fashion week as it is a great overall indicator of what will be coming down the pike in beauty. I love getting a jump on seasonal looks. You will too when you follow along.
