Needing a New Cut? New Color? Check Out the Latest in Spring Hair Trends.

Renowned stylist Antonio Prieto of his eponymous Manhattan salon recently shared his Spring/Summer 2009 hair trends. If you are looking for an update to your hair look, his tips are right on. From a new cut, color or both - I am longing to try something new for Spring.

The Cut:

For spring and summer, we’re seeing classic and retro shapes deconstructed, in both cut and style. Women are looking for value at the salon just like everywhere else, so looks have a soft, grown-in feel, and the grow out is easy. Everybody is looking for versatility in their look, and more and more women are loving their natural texture, whatever it is. We’re able to give them multiple looks with styling options. Lengths are transitional. Fringes are long so they can be worn straight down, swept, or parted in the middle. Heavier bobs and boho looks are looser, with shorter layers in the crown. In long layers, we’re using a disconnected technique that creates a wonderful cascading effect in wavy or curly textures.

This look is a fun take on a classic mid length cut. The face framing layers add volume and texture. I a loving the gorgeous color too.

Here is a classic bob with a lot of interior layers - and a real kick of convertible color. I am loving this and wondering if I dare go this short after growing my hair long for the past year.

The Color:

In color, we’re seeing women moving towards more monochromatic looks with subtle tone on tone effects in warm floral tones: poppy, ginger, and marigold for reds and blondes, and almond, fig, and whiskey for browns. Shine is huge. To create versatility along with dimension, we’re using a convertible color technique in which we add color panels that create different effects depending on how the hair is worn. The look can be customized, so both bankers and fashionistas can enhance their weekend look without compromising their professional one. Because the panels can be placed under the part, grow out is a cinch. Highlights are natural in the part, then more concentrated at the surface.

Try to enjoy natural your natural texture, especially if you have waves or curls. Cascading

Beautiful Makeup Search Top Ten Haircare Items of 2008.

As I am obsessed with my hair lately. (well... really, when am I not?) I thought I would start my top ten lists with my favorite haircare items. Here are my favorite haircare items, listed in no particular order.

    1. Jonathan Product Finish Control High Shine Flexible Hairspray - Love this hair spray when I need some extra hold. This is perfect sprayed onto my brush and then swept through my hair, especially when pulling back into a ponytail.
    2. Kronos Phyx Overnight Repair Masque - I use this a few times a week and it has done wonders for my hair. Check out my review of Phyx.
    3. Sedu Revolution Hair Styler - This flat iron with perfectly rounded edges has redefined my hair. I am wearing it down more often now as I have become quickly in love with how this makes my hair look. Read my thoughts about this Sedu.
    4. Cibu Pho Finish Hair Spray - My friend Christina told me I would love this, and she was right. This finishing hair spray is perfect for everyday hair. Click to read more about Pho Finish and other Cibu products I have tried.
    5. L'Oreal Feria Hair Color - This has become my new favorite go to hair color, for touch-ups and beyond. My hair is left conditioned, shiny and it covers grays perfectly. Go to my review of Feria.
    6. WEN Cleansing Conditioner - I have not gushed about this yet, but I plan to soon with some New Year , New You features. I am amazed at what this has done for my hair and scalp after using these cleansing conditioners for a few months now. It takes some getting used to, a shampoo and conditioner in one that does not lather. But the softness and fresh from the salon hair qaulity is worth it.
    7. Sebastian Professional Whipped Creme - This is like a deep conditioner and hair styling cream in one. It smells divine and takes only a small amount to leave my hair shiny and easy to style.
    8. Sephora Brand Paddle Brush - This brush smoothes my hair when blowing out so I get rid of the kinks and curls that come out here and there. It is easy to work with and perfect for straighter styles.
    9. Goody Ouchless Elastic Bands - There are always a few of these floating around the bottom of my handbag, in my car, on my desk and of course - in my hair quite often too. These elastics last and last and do not pull or tug on the hair.
    10. Paul Mitchell Hair Repair Treatment - I have depended on this treatment for years and years. From sitting with this on my head in the sun (when I was a teenager) to my weekly deep conditioning treatment, this Hair Repair has become a staple in my life.
