Stila In the Light Palette.

I bought this beautiful palette, Stila In the Light Palette ($39), late in the summer, and I don't think there has been a day since where I haven't used at least one of the shades. In fact, all of the shades in this eye shadow palette are very natural and wearable, with even subtle smoky eyes a cinch, especially with the enclosed instructional look booklet.

This beauty contains 10 natural shades and a limited-edition Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner. The shades:

  • Bare (matte ivory)
  • Kitten (shimmering nude pink)
  • Bliss (matte nude)
  • Sunset (copper shimmer)
  • Sandstone (matte neutral brown)
  • Champagne (pale gold shimmer)
  • Gilded Gold (bronze with gold shimmer)
  • Luster (deep gray with gold shimmer)
  • Night Sky (slate blue with silver shimmer)
  • Ebony (matte black)

I have already hit pan with Kitten, Bare and Luster. I have been using all three together, for a natural smoky and shimmery eye - perfect for day. I use Luster not only in my crease, but I also use it as an eyeliner. I dampen my favorite Bobbi Brown Eye Definer Brush, dip it in, apply, and get the most beautiful brown line. It looks more brown than gray, as it is described, especially wet. Another favorite combination is Kitten and Night Sky. They blend very well together for a gray/blue smoky look. I like using Night Sky with that look too.

Have you seen the MAC Holiday 2011 shadows yet? There are some beauties in there that I can't wait to try.

Halloween Beauty Tips, Tricks and Products.

Just because I am beyond trick or treating age doesn't mean I'm not up for some holiday fun.  I don't really have anything planned, but as my teenaged kids are dressing up for different parties, I have come across some beauty products that are perfect for creating different looks for Halloween. I even have some fun How-To's to share, just in case you need a little inspiration.

First, MAKE UP FOR EVER has a powder called Fluo Night ($31), a translucent glow in the dark blacklight pigment that is sure to liven up any costume.

This universal powder can be combined with any cream, powder or gel based product to create a glow anywhere you want it.  How cool to add it to your eyeliner or over your lipsticks to really come alive in the right light.

In case you are looking to create a sexy dracula look like the one below, be sure to check out the step-by-step MUFE has created for us.

FLIRT! has put together some fun Halloween looks that will give you some inspiration.  Just a few products used the right way can transform your whole look. My favorite is the 1920's flapper, and it is a look that could be easily done as described:

EYES:
Start by applying an eyeshadow base, such as DREAMY EYES™ Eyeshadow in Sugar Daddy, all over lid from lashline to browbone. To achieve the simple, pretty cat eye, use OPENING LINE™ Liquid Eyeliner in Ebony Edge. Beginning from the inner corner of the upper lid, apply a line that gets thicker and angled slightly upward as you approach the outer corner of your lid. Swoop the line slightly up past the outer corner of the eye. Then, beginning at the center of the eye, apply liquid eyeliner to the lower lid until it meets the eyeliner on the upper lid. Finish the look with ALL THAT LASH™ Volumizing Mascara in Kickin’ Black.

CHEEK:
Dust apples of cheeks with PEEK-A-BLUSH™ Sheer Powder Cheek Color in Dapple Apple.

LIP:
Use HIGH WATTAGE™ Intense and Creamy Lipcolor in Ace for a bold lip. For a sheerer, high-sheen pout, try GLAMOURAZZI™ Extreme Lip Lacquer in Red Hottie.

Complete the look by adding a faux beauty mark anywhere on the face with OPENING LINE™ Liquid Eyeliner in Ebony Edge.

If you just want to add a bit of Halloween, simply change up your nails for the weekend. It can be done in about 10 minutes at home with these Incoco Halloween Nail Strips. I am loving the Black Magic spider-web design and the fun Mischief Night design for a quick change.

The strips are so easy to use over your nails.  Simply find the strip that is closest to the size of your nail, remove the film, peel the polish off the strip, pull the guide off, place over your nail, smooth it out and then file away the excess.  I literally did both hands in under ten minutes.

Get inspired with MAC and Snooki with their second annual Halloween Face-Off.  It really gives me some great ideas and a few tricks learned from the artists themselves. There are two videos that are a must-see.  Don't forget to vote for your fave too and be entered into their fab contest to go to Las Vegas.

Are you dressing up for Halloween or leaving it to the kids this year?

Prepare Your Skin for Winter with Clarins.

The weather has certainly changed here in New England. Gone are the long, humid days of summer.  It is now getting dark out by 6:00 PM, not to mention that is getting much colder and dry already.  I am prepping my skin for winter by using my usual winter skin products now. Hopefully, this will help me combat the extreme dryness I get in the winter, by starting to prevent it from even happening in the first place.

Here is what I am using in my winter skin prep, all from Clarins.

Hand and Nail Treatment Cream ($30)
This hand cream is on my desk, and I am applying it once or twice a day already. I use a thicker cream at night, but for nourishing and protecting with an invisible glove-like shield, this cream works. Enriched with Sesame Oil and Japanese Mulberry, hands are kept soft all day long.  I am sure as it gets even more cold and dry out, I will be applying this after every hand washing.  It sinks into my skin really quick so it is actually not a bother.

Moisture Rich Body Lotion ($40)
I like this instant skin hydrator for not only how it makes my body feel after applying, but I like it it locks in. My skin constantly feels hydrated so I never get that dry or sometimes itchy feel during the day.  Made with Peach Milk, Shea, Candlenut Oil and Orange Blossom, this body lotion does the trick. It is not too light, not too rich - it is just right.

Tonic Body Treatment Oil ($54)
There is nothing quite like this body oil to soothe dry skin. Using a small amount of it over my wet skin after showering is not only soothing; it feels luxurious. It smells it too. Made with 100% natural oils of pure plant extracts including Rosemary, Geranium, Mint and Hazelnut this oil does more than you would think. This oil helps to firm, tone and improve elasticity, smooth the appearance of stretch marks - all while keeping skin soft.

What do you do to prep your skin for winter?
