Travel in Style and Look Great with Nexxus.

I traveled quite a bit over the summer and have even more out of town adventures planned for Fall. Between the TSA guidelines and simply not having enough room to pack all my favorite hair goodies, I turned to Nexxus Creative Director and Celebrity Stylist, Kevin Mancuso, for some advice.

Kevin says that with these quck tips and a few great products from Nexxus, you hair can look great while traveling and all throughout your trip.

Before Take Off

Tip #1: Start with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner in travel sizes
Hotel shampoos can be drying, so pack your own nourishing shampoo and conditioner in convenient travel sizes that won’t slow you down at security.  Opt for a moisturizing shampoo like Nexxus Therappe Luxurious Moisturizing Shampoo (3oz Travel Size, $2.99). This ultra-rich shampoo helps replenish dry hair with vital moisture. Formulated with Avocado Oil, Rosemary, Chamomile and Nettle, it gently cleanses while nourishing hair.

Tip #2: Opt for a simple, chic updo when taking a long flight.
Before going to the airport, wrap hair into a low, side bun and secure with an elastic band. This easy updo will help to keep hair away from the face and neck while you fly and prevent unsightly dents from the headrest from forming in your hair.

At Your Destination

Tip #3: Sport a fashionable down-style.
Upon arrival, remove the elastic band and tousle hair with fingers. Make sure to massage hair at the roots to boost volume and help release your hair’s natural oils.
Finish the look with a light misting of hairspray, like Nexxus Comb Thru Natural Hold Design and Finishing Mist (1.5oz Travel Size, $2.99), for lasting hold with movement.

Tip #4: Repair and rejuvenate hair with a deep-conditioning treatment.

When at your final destination, use Nexxus ProMend Split End Binding Overnight Treatment ($14.99) to bind split ends back together while you sleep and dramatically strengthen hair against future damage. Just one treatment will mend up to 94% of split ends and will leave you with a healthy, fresh-cut look for the rest of your trip.

Tomorrow, Thursday, October 13 from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM EST, Kevin Mancuso is hosting a live Facebook chat on the Nexxus wall. Stop on in and ask Kevin any hair questions you may have! And, if you haven’t already, “Like” Nexxus on Facebook to get their latest updates.

Fake It: How to Highlight and Brighten Eyes.

A  fresh, well rested, just back from a day at the spa look can be achieved with a few tricks and the right products.  The key is highlighting and brightening.

So, just how do you get that fresh, bright eyed look? Read on to learn how and which products are the best to use.

1. Use a yellow based concealer to cover and cancel out any undereye darkness.

Bobbi Brown makes a wonderful Creamy Concealer Kit, which she actually calls her secret to the universe.  The concealers are all yellow based and are formulated with brightening while concealing at the same time. $32.00 at bobbibrown.com.

Benefit Cosmetics has a concealer called Erase Paste.  This is a very thick, heavy duty concealer that contains yellow undertones but brightening properties that instantly brighten up the entire area. I find it best to apply with a concealer brush. $26.00 at benefitcosmetics.com.

2. Line the inner rim of the eye with a flesh toned eyeliner shade.

I was first introduced to this concept by the wonderful artists behind Three Custom Color Specialists and their Light Clarifier Pencil.  I use this almost daily and have since introduced over four years ago.  Why even look elsewhere for a similar one when this creamy pencil does it and does it well. The flesh color makes my eyes pop.  It is easy to apply to the rims of my eyes and it lasts all day. One pencil lasts almost a year and is priced right. $16.50 at threecustom.com.

3. Use a soft shimmery white eye shadow on the inner corner of the eyes and on the upper part of the brow bone to open up the eye area.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Eyeshadow in White Shimmer 7 is the perfect white shadow with just enough shimmer to get the job done.  I especially like this one dabbed into the inner corner of my eyes. $19.00 at Sephora.com.

MAC Eye Shadow in White Frost is another go to product for me, except I really like the way this one shimmers on my brow bone.  It reflects the perfect amount of shimmer while not looking too frosty, so forget that frost is even in the name. $14.50 at maccosmetics.com.

5. Use a palette of lighter eyeshadows.

When I want a neutral yet soft shaded eye, I always reach for my Dior 5 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Incognito.  This has five very soft, subtly shaded neutrals that instantly soften and waken up my look, especially when I use it with any of the tricks I have listed here. $58.00 at Sephora.com.

NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Exotic Dance is one of my new favorites.  It has a beautiful bright white and gold shadow that instatnly wakes up the loks of the eyes while keeping them soft and simple. $33.00 at nordstrom.com.

6. Use a specially formulated highlighter, highlighting the inner rims of the eyes and brow bone.

Smashbox’s Eye Beam Double-Ended Brightener highlights and brightens eyes in one quick step. The highlight side gives the inner corners of eyes and brow bone a luminous glow, while the brightener side delivers radiant definition when used to line the lower inner rims of eyes. Formulated with antioxidant-rich vitamins C and E as well as moisturizing coconut oil, the formula wakes up eyes instantly. $22.00 at Sephora.com.

The holy grail of highlighters, Yves Saint Laurent is known for this one, and I use it daily. Touch Éclat used in the right places, again like the inner corerns of the eyes and brow bone, gives off the perfect radiance of a softened glow. It coems in eight shades for all of your various highlighting need,s but stick with the original, Luminous Radiance for the freshest of looks. $40.00 at Sephora.com.

Smoothe Shaving Tips.

Just because summer is coming to an end, it doesn't mean that it's time to stop worry about having the softest smooth legs. While I tend to mine more frequently in the months that I am baring them more frequently, I do like to keep them as smooth as possible all throughout the year.

I recently got to ask Venus Dermatologist, Dr. Ellen Gendler for some suggestions on keeping legs their smoothest.

Q: I know everyone is different, but is there a certain routine you should stick to when shaving? Every 3 days? Only in the tub?

A: Every person’s routine should depend on their needs, but if you have very coarse hair and are prone to ingrowns, I’d recommend shaving less frequently. In any case, I’d always recommend shaving in the tub/shower, where the area you’re shaving can be wet.

Q: What do you suggest to keep legs smooth and fuzz free for as long as possible between shavings?

A: Use a razor that can protect your skin as you shave. Try Venus ProSkin MoistureRich – it has built-in shave gel bars that do just that. Moisturization is also key! Make sure you apply lotion right after shaving, when the skin can fully absorb what you put on.

Q: I seem to always cut my ankles and knees. Is there a way to minimize these nicks?

A: Make sure you’re using a razor designed for the contours of those trickier areas. Using a razor for women (like Venus) is one way to conquer these areas easier, because they are made with features like a pivoting head.

Q: How often should you change the razor blade?

A: It’s different for everyone, but as a rule of thumb, throw out your razor blade when you first start to notice dullness or discomfort – this usually happens to most women anywhere between 5-10 shaves.

Be sure to visit the Gillette Venus website for all your smooth shaving needs.
