When it comes to matte lip products, one of the originators is NARS. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil has been around for a few years, and it is one of the best matte lippies out there. NARS just launched 10 brand new Velvet Matte Lip Pencils bringing the entire range to 28. With so many shades to choose from, it's hard not to get excited.
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is a chubby, crayon-like lip pencil. It is a double-duty lip product that allows for lining and filling in all-in-one. As you'd expect, the color payoff is exceptional as these are highly pigmented. What I really like about the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is that they glide on unlike a lot of matte lipsticks or other lip products; it is non-drying, very creamy and emollient.
I really like the finish. The Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is a rich matte, as in color and finish. Velvet is a great way to describe the finish. It is not one of those dry, look-at-every-line-on-my-lips matte formulations. Overall, I am not a huge fan of matte formulas, but I have always made an exception for the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil; the formula is just excellent. I should mention that these are quite long lasting, as well. I get a good five hours of wear before I see fading. Some of the more bold colors last much longer than the lighter shades, but because I usually wear the lighter colors like Get Off, Bolero and Sex Machine, I do notice it fading a bit sooner.
