IT Cosmetics is at it again! The brand known for amazing complexion products has just launched — finally — a makeup primer.
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Primer+ Oil-Free couldn’t come at a better time than summer, when we strive for long-wear, shine-free makeup. Your Skin But Better Primer+ Oil-Free promises just that, with a bit of skin care benefits added in.
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Primer+ is an oil-free primer that is designed to be a makeup-gripping base that also hydrates the skin as you wear it. It is made to extend the wear of makeup. Did it do that for me?
I’ve tested Your Skin But Better Primer+ for the last few weeks with different complexion products and in all sorts of conditions.
Over the last two weeks I have worn IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Primer+ under various complexion products through my daily life. My daily life includes things like working, cleaning, cooking, and shopping; I have gone out to dinner, done yoga, gone to boot camp, walked for exercise and even traveled on a plane. Throughout this time I have worn this primer through cool, rainy temperatures in the 40’s to hot and steamy temperatures over 100 degrees. I am here to share my complete review.
I am VERY picky with makeup primer and will tell you up front that I don’t get along with a heavy based silicone primer. When I looked into the ingredients of this IT Cosmetics primer and saw dimethicone as the third ingredient and then in a few more forms of it further down the list, I was concerned. I did notice that glycerin was the second ingredient and that the additional forms of dimethicone were emulsifiers and skin protectants. Regardless, I went into testing with caution because any type of silicone can give me a pimple or two.
The primer itself looks and feels very much like a gel as it comes out of the tube. It is very lightly tinted in a pink tone, which dissipates and is pretty much clear, as you smooth it onto the skin. It does feel a bit silicone-y but it has a lot of slip to, meaning it feels more wet, due to the glycerin. It needs a minute or so to actually dry down once applied. As soon as it dries, though, an immediate burring of pores and fines lines already starts to takes place, thanks to the silicones. Luckily, they are not as heavy as I thought or worried about.
I tested IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Primer+ with all of the IT Cosmetics CC+ Creams, the Confidence in a Compact, as well as two of my favorite liquid foundations and this BB Cream that I wear in the summer. The best combination, which should be no surprise, was by combining the primer with IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte. You can read my complete review of the Oil-Free Matte Cream here.
Overall, I would say that the primer performed well and it does feel moisturizing as I wear it; not once did I feel that it made my skin feel tight or dehydrated, which a primer can often do. I can definitely feel the grip it provides as I apply makeup. It definitely extended the wear of makeup. I did not apply my finishing spray during this test, and I think that was apparent, as I did experience a bit of movement around my nose and chin, but not until about eight hours or so. I am really not oily, but most of the conditions of summer include humidity so this is expected.
In the very high heat and humidity, I would suggest a bit of finishing powder and finishing spray if you require all-day wear. For 8 hours of flawless makeup, IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Primer+ is a good bet. My pores and lines looked blurred throughout the entire day and I did not experience any breakout.
