Touching up your hair color whether it’s for covering up gray hair at the temples, new growth or dark roots isn’t at hard as it seems when you follow the instructions, use my tips and make us of a kit like Clairol Root Touch-Up by Nice ‘N Easy.
Sure, there are plenty of hair color kits out there, and for this little tutorial, I am speaking about only coloring your new hair growth at the roots and temples — like a few grays or dark roots. If you haven’t made it to the hair salon in three to four weeks and have some growth, this is a great tutorial for you.
If you are intimated at all by this, try a temporary root touch-up spray or powder until you can get back into the salon. I am in no way advising you to go all out and change your hair color. Don’t do that. Buy a kit as close to your blended and dyed hair color and NOT your natural hair color. Root Touch-Up makes a variety of hair color shades that easily match a blend of hair tones. For example, I have dyed medium blonde hair with a naturally darker root, so I select the medium blonde shade to blend in and cover my gray hair.
I have depended on Root Touch-Up in between hair color appointments for years; it is very easy to use. Clairol has included everything needed to get the job done inside the kit.
Inside the box is the perfectly measured amount of color, developer, applicator brush (which looks a lot like the brush my professional hair stylist uses), gloves and mixing tray. All I supply is a few towels, a mirror, and a timer... Root Touch-Up works in just 10 minutes.
The process is very straightforward and the directions are quite easy.
I start by protecting my clothes with a towel. I drape the towel over my shoulders to protect my clothing and prepare the hair color. I open both products to be mixed and mix per the instructions by emptying into the little provided tray. I mix well (using the tip on the opposite end of the brush) until thoroughly blended and immediately apply to the roots of my hair.
I start directly at my center part by applying the color mixture. I am careful to saturate my hair thoroughly. I dab and brush the color onto my roots until the dark roots and gray are completely covered. I move in sections and repeat by dividing my hair with the tip of the brush. I am especially careful to apply the mixture right around my hairline and temples where I show a lot of gray hair. When I am completely finished saturating my last section, I begin timing for a total of 10 minutes. When the 10 minutes is up, I rinse my hair condition (do not shampoo) and style as usual.
From start to finish (opening the box, applying the color, to styling) it takes me about 30 minutes. It makes such a noticeable difference and vast improvement in my hair color. My dark roots and gray hairs are visibly erased and I can now make it through to my next salon appointment.
Root Touch-Up by Nice 'n Easy is available at your favorite drugstore or mass retailer for about $6.99. Your best bet is to order online right now, or use a service like Target drive-up.
